Substantial completion of the library roof project took place Friday, January 24, 2020 when the "cherry on top" was installed - the beautifully replicated skylight - shown here in the photo sequence. Look for the glint of the newly-installed skylight peeking above the roofline of the original 1893 library building as you walk or drive by.
Library Director Vanessa Abraham said [and we could not agree more] "This is a project Groton can be proud of now and for at least 100 or more years." The previous natural slate roof protected the building for 126 years. We can look forward to the new slate roof lasting just as long as this generation passes a solid library building to the next generation. Clerk of Works Bob Garside says the library roof renovation and reconstruction is the best, highest quality project he has seen in his decades in the building trades.
