UCC Church Launches Fundraiser To Renovate the Church

Union Congregational Church of Groton announces a faith-raising event to launch its “Coming Together, Lifting Up, Reaching Out” campaign. Members and friends of the church will gather at Groton (Senior) Center, 163 West Main St, on Sunday, March 8 from 4-6 p.m. to celebrate the start of a fundraising effort that will modernize the historic church making it accessible to all. Included in the project’s plan is a four-stop elevator accessed from a new street level entranceway. The plan also calls for four new ADA compliant restrooms with two at the sanctuary level.
“We are delighted to kick off this campaign to make our church more welcoming and available to the community” said Kelli Hnath, co-chair of the campaign. “This church has been home to many different families and organizations since it was first built in 1826. By installing an elevator and revamping our interior, we hope to create a more welcoming space for today’s families and for our community.”
The theme of the event is “Celebrating the 20s” and members will highlight the church’s history as well as its future. At- tendees are invited to enjoy a sweet and savory reception and to come dressed in period costume from the 1820s, 1920s or 2020s.
