"Your Old House" at GHS

Groton Historical Society will host a talk Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in Sibley Hall at Groton Public Library on: "How to Research the History of Your Old House" featuring Carl Flowers.

Mr. Flowers has recently published Groton's Anonymous Mistress, a history of his 1722 home on Dan Parker Road.  He will present a slide show describing some history of his house and the process by which he uncovered its remarkable story.  Groton Historical Society staff will be on hand with information and sources that can enable you to learn the history of your own home.

Carl became the house's owner in 1980 upon the death of his Aunt Esther and Uncle Elmer.  He has made improvement to the 133 acre domain to make a living by farming just as the residents have done over the last 291 years.  In 1998 Carl took early retirement from his job in south Florida as a history teacher to become a full-time resident of Groton. Carl has a B.A. and M.A. degree in American history and has received several awards during his teaching career.  He has had articles published in various magazines and historical journals.

Refreshments will be served. Autographed copies of the book will be available for sale. This program is free and open to the public thanks to a grant from the Town of Groton's Trust Funds' lecture fund. Call Groton Historical Society at 478- 448-0092 for more information, or check GrotonHistoricalSociety.org.
