I Am Eager to ‘Pay It Forward’

My name is Michael McGaffigan and I am a 24 year old Apprentice Funeral Director & Embalmer, and a lifelong resident of Groton.
I would like to publically acknowledge and extend my most sincere thanks to Karen Tuomi and the Town of Groton Trust Funds in selecting me as the recipient of both the Dorothy Ganzer Van Hoogen & Andre B. Van Hoogan Scholarship as well as the Frank F. Waters Vocational Education Fund as I pursue my Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Service at the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service, located in Houston, TX.
Following the completion of my studies this December, and the passing of state and national board examinations, I will be joining my father, first-generation funeral director and longtime Groton resident, Jack McGaffigan, in the operation of the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, located in Pepperell.
Working alongside my father has been an absolute gift, as I have been able to learn funeral service as it was taught years ago – father and son working together, learning from one another, and ultimately serving their local community as a team.
I would like to reiterate my thanks to all those who have been involved in further perpetuating initiatives such as the Groton Trust Funds to town residents. To be chosen as the recipient of these funds, is, in my opinion, a very much-appreciated vote of confidence not only to myself, but to our family-run business as well.
I am eager to ‘pay it forward’ by utilizing my education to serve as a trusted resource to area residents in their time of need. Groton is a special place, and it is truly a blessing to be a part of this community!
