Please Don’t Close Nashoba Valley Medical Center

I for one surely hope Steward does not go through with its union-busting move against the nurses at Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
If Cerberus takes a long look at the situation, they will find that NVMC is the heart of a network of services that must bring a whole lot of profit to the system. My primary care doctor, for example, is in the Steward Network. My insurance is an HMO that requires mostly in-network services.
For this reason my secondary hospital is Holy Family in Methuen and my tertiary hospital is St. Elizabeth’s in Boston. If Steward closes NVMC I will not choose to remain in the Steward Network because I won’t be forced to travel to the next closest Steward hospital for services. So I will choose another primary care physician in a network that will allow me to go to Emerson Hospital.
This will result in changing my entire network and Steward will lose all of the business that is associated with my care. I cannot imagine that I am alone in this. Steward will lose a lot of business and a lot of money following this path.
