Tax Payers Alliance Has Its Say

Dear Editor:

The Tax Payers Alliance has had its monthly meeting and would like to comment on some items. We rode down to Fitch's Bridge. It's smaller than we thought it would be, but looks like a nice job was done.

We biked down a dirt road through someone's corn field to Route 119. Are there other trails we missed?

On the Town Meeting article about Squannacook Hall, we think the best thing that should be done is to sell the building requiring that it be moved to another location in town (it is historical) saving the town the cost of a new septic system. The land should be donated to the church next door for a badly needed parking lot.

On the town meeting study committee report, we think the town meeting should go all absentee ballots. This would have to be legally set up. There's no way busy soccer moms and dads are going to attend a four-hour town meeting (mom's taxi just does not stop that long.) The town officials could then meet in the second floor meeting room of the town hall, this would be televised. We think the town meeting in its present form is obsolete for the year 2014.

That's the way we see it. We think we have some good ideas. We also think the budget increase should be cut in half but granted (watch the spending).
