Fran Dillion Receives Accolades & Tributes for Service
Monday night, the last Selectmen's meeting for three-term member Fran Dillon, was filled with tributes to one of the most respected members of the board, who received accolades from his fellow members for his dedication to Groton. Board Chairman Anna Eliot praised Dillon's knowledgeable work on the Board, adding, "We're not letting you retire. You will be in demand."
Town Manager Mark Haddad thanked Dillon, saying, "You are the finest selectman I have ever served with, and you made me a better town manager. Thank you. It has been a privilege to work with you." The Board presented Dillon with a framed copy of the cover of the 2012 Annual Report which featured a photo of a 'townie' ball cap and description of a bona fide 'townie' Fran Dillon.
Police Chief Donald Palma presented an honorary Deputy Police Chief badge to Dillon whom he characterized as a "friend, a mentor, a boss and an advocate, the best of character traits."
Dillon thanked all of citizens for allowing him to serve for the past nine years.
