Helen Miriam (McDowell) Goodwin

Helen Miriam (McDowell) Goodwin beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. She was born in Ayer on October 20, 1933, daughter of the late David W. McDowell and Frances G. (Barnes) Gardner. 

Helen attended Ayer High School. She moved to Groton in 1951, where she and her late husband Robert C. Goodwin built their home and raised their children. Helen worked at NEBS, Sargent Pharmacy, and in later years, as a nanny.

She loved the outdoors, enjoying the sunshine, trips to the beach, and weekends at the lake with family. She took great pride in her home and especially loved sitting on her porch and swinging on the glider with her little neighbor, Jayden. 

She is survived by her son Gary W. Goodwin and his wife Linda of Gardner; her daughter Cheryl A. Sargent and her partner Robert Kukulski of Dunstable. 

She was the grandmother to Nathan, Shaughn, and Leighton Sargent, Lindsay Knower and Derek Goodwin. She had five great-grandchildren. She is survived by three brothers and one sister; Henry McDowell of Westford; James McDowell of Jupiter, FL; Charles Gardner of Salem, NH; and Ann Parkinson of Leesburg, FL.

She was the sister to the late David McDowell of Michigan and William McDowell of Dracut. 

She is survived by a special family friend, Hal Sargent, Jr. and neighbors Dennis, Dobbie, and Jayden Chan.
