Mary Noble

Mary Noble, of Groton, Massachusetts, formerly of Pines Lake, Wayne, New Jersey, passed away at home on Sunday, July 1, surrounded by her loving family. Mary recently turned 90 years of age, a goal she very much wanted to reach. She was born on June 28, 1928, in Newark, New Jersey, to Patrick and Everett Toal and attended St. Vincent Academy.

In early 1950 Mary met and fell in love with Gerry Noble at a dance at the Ivanhoe. They were married on September 9,1950 and went on to have 4 children and 9 grandchildren, her greatest source of pride and accomplishment.

Some of Mary’s happiest times were summer vacations at the Jersey Shore with Gerry and all the kids and grandkids. She always said her most enjoyable moments of those vacations were listening to her family talking, laughing and just spending time together.

Mary’s calling and profession was nursing, receiving her RN from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1949. She started her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital and later became Supervisor of the Intensive Care Unit at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains, retiring after 26 years in 1991. But her best nursing was practiced right in her Osceola Road neighborhood in Pines Lake, her neighbors often calling her for expert advice and eventually naming her the NMD (Neighborhood Medical Diagnostician)

She was an active member of the Pines Lake Women’s and Garden Clubs and then joined the Women’s Club in Groton, Massachusetts, when she and Gerry moved there in 2005 to her daughter Mary Ellen and husband Paul’s home. Mary also loved swimming with the Groton Seniors at the Groton School.

Mary was an avid reader of mystery books, loved watching detective shows with her grandchildren, playing Scrabble, and then Yahtzee in her later years and could never resist a Talbot’s sale!

She is survived by sons Stephen and wife Anne of Poland, Maine; Patrick and wife Lenore of New London, New Hampshire; daughters Mary Ellen and husband Paul Cappucci of Groton, Massachusetts; and Susan and husband Paul Munson of Cohasset, Massachusetts; 8 grandchildren - Matthew, Timothy, Cristina, Michael, Stefanie, Molly, Zachary, and Melissa, as well as several nieces, nephews and many longtime friends. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald, grandson Nicholas and her siblings, Anna Stobach, Patrick Toal, and James Toal.

Family and friends may gather to honor and remember Mary for visiting hours on Monday July 2, 2018 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street, Groton. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday July 3, 2018 at 10am in Saint James Church, 13 St James Ave. West Groton.

Donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice, 3 Patterson Road, Suite 3, Shirley, MA 01464-2907 or Shriners Hospitals for Children online or by mail to Office of Development, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607
