Obituary: Ronald M. Watson, 85

Ronald M. Watson, 85, of Scarborough Maine, passed away on July 20, 2019 after a long illness. Ron was born in Tyngsboro MA on October 8, 1933, to Arthur M. and Helen (Brown) Watson. Ron was raised on the family farm, in Groton, MA. He graduated from Groton High School, in 1951 and attended UMASS, Amherst for a time, then enlisted in the Marines.
Ron leaves his loving wife of 42 years, Linda (Mackechnie) Watson, daughters Debra Lawson of Ayer, MA, Cynthia Donoghue and husband Mike of Frederick, MD, Jennifer Kessel and husband Blaine of Nashua, NH, Tina Roe and husband Rick of Lakeside, CA, and son Eric Lannquist and wife Mimi of Beverly, MA, and five grandchildren: Kenny, Taylor, Colby, Amelia and Justin. Ron also leaves his brothers, William Watson and wife Diane of Lamoille, NV, Robert Watson and wife Anne of Milford, DE, and sister Roberta Livingston of Westford, MA, several loved nieces and nephews, and a very special great granddaughter, Brianna. Ron is predeceased by his parents and by his sister, Jean Coon.
Ron enlisted in the Marines in February, 1954, and served in all three USMC Divisions, in Korea and Japan, he returned to the US and served at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was then detached to the Fleet Marines in the Mediterranean, where his ship was involved in the Suez Crisis of 1956. Ron was awarded the Honorary Naval Rank of SM3 for duty aboard ship as a Signalman and was discharged from the Marines with the rank of Sergeant in 1957.
Ron worked in residential construction as a superintendent for Ayer Corp for many years, in New England, the mid Atlantic area, Puerto Rico and Arizona. Ron had many diverse talents; he enjoyed writing and telling stories of history and life in the earlier days. Later he lived and worked in Southern California and Idaho where thru a hobby of building miniature replicas of farm and ranch equipment, he became a Western Artist, participating in many Western Art shows and sales throughout the Western U.S. and Canada. Having grown up on a farm he enjoyed working with draft and saddle horses. While living in CA, he joined the local Cowboy Polo Team and traveled to many tournaments in the Southwest.
Ron was a kind and thoughtful man who loved his family and many friends; he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
