Congregation Shalom Changes from Mandatory Dues Amount to Voluntary Pledge Amount System

Congregation Shalom, a Reform synagogue in Chelmsford, invites you to contact them regarding membership. Its members come from Chelmsford and many nearby cities and towns in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. In June 2019, Congregation Shalom voted to move from a traditional mandatory dues amount membership system to a voluntary pledge amount Annual Commitment system. Voluntary-dues-based systems are common among Reform Jewish congregations in the United States.
The Annual Commitment Pledge system provides a suggested pledge amount, but all members are asked to make their own individual pledge based on the Congrega- tion’s financial needs, their role in supporting those needs, and their capacity to give financially in light of their own circumstances.
Congregation Shalom encourages all members to commit to strengthening, connecting, and inspiring its synagogue community as a valued member of its extended family.
“This new change is an exciting way that we will be approaching membership moving forward. We know our current members, as well as new members, will find this to be a welcome approach to connecting with a Jewish community,” says Congregation Shalom President Liz Denly.
