West Groton Water Supply District recently received the 2020 Utility of the Year Award from New England Water Works Association (NEWWA), the region’s largest and oldest not-for-profit organization of water works professionals.
This award recognizes utilities which have made significant im- provements to the water system infrastructure, customer service, staff training, and/or operations to further protect public health of the customers they serve. West Groton Water Supply District received this award in the small-sized utility category.
West Groton Water Sup- ply District was formed in 1911 and today services and supplies clean, safe drinking water to more than 1,700 people in 600 homes and businesses. The district has increased the original well production of 30,400 gallons per day to become a system that can provide more than 850,000 gallons per day of quality water via two groundwater sources.
West Groton Water Supply District had the foresight to build an additional 600,000 gallon storage tank and secured future quality water supply by developing the Town Forest well in 2007, which has permitted withdrawal approval to provide 850,000 gallons per day.
In 2018, the district approved a low-income assistance program to assist customers with financial need. The district is currently in the process of a meter upgrade program.
West Groton Water Supply District was a recipient of Mass-DEP’s Regional Recognition Award in 2018.
West Groton Water Supply District was recognized with this NEWWA award on September 23, 2020, during the association's virtual annual conference.
