Boys Hockey: Lancers hold on to defeat Groton-Dunstable 5-3

Longmeadow’s Jack Barron scored two goals in the final minute of the first period and the Lancers held on to defeat Groton-Dunstable 5-3 in the season opener for both teams. Barron (Assist: Matt Fronz) scored at 14:11 of the first and seconds later made it 2-0 in a mass of bodies in front of GD keeper Aidan Farrara.
Spencer Robins (Assist: Rob Joyal, Matt Fronz) notched his first score of the season at 3:54 of the second stanza before Crusader Will Kenny (Assists: Brendan Ferrari, Deaglan Garside) broke the ice (no pun intended) at 6:30 making the score 3-1 after two periods.
The Crusaders evened the score early in the third with goals by Jonathan McSweeney (Assist: Jared Breton) and Will Kenny, his second, with the helper from Brendan Ferrari.
Lancers Viveep Vemuladale (Assists: Jack Barron, Spencer Robins) broke the tie at 8:41 of the third on a power play goal and Spencer Robins (Assist: Jack Barron) made it 5-3, tallying an empty netter with time running out. Max Loyuk made 25 saves while Aidan Ferrara stopped 13 for GD.
