Algonquin 5, GD 3

Patrick Solomon’s cleared the bases in the sixth inning with a grand slam as the visiting Tomahawks (3-0) got the decision over the GD in the season opener. Crusaders Jared Whitby  ( 2 for 4, RBI) and Joe O’Malley ( single, RBI). Battery: Brendan Ferrari, Riley Curran. Catching, Nate Glencross, Jake Figueroa.

GD 15, Westborough 4 

Casey Griffith (4 RBIs, four runs, stolen base), Brendan Ferrari (2 for 3) led GD as the Crusadersnotched their first win of the season. GD (1-1, 1-0 Mid-Wach B) broke a close game open, scoring 5 runs in the fifth and four more in top of the seventh. Six errors by the Rangers (2-1, 0-1) did them in. The battery for the Crusaders: Nate Glencross, Jared Whitby (3), Riley Curran (7); and Jake Figueroa and Alex Bushnell (7) shared catching duties.

Nicolette Sannazzaro (two hits, three RBIs). Records: GD (0-1); ARHS (2-1).

Algonquin 10, GD 4

Stats: Cassidy Heulings (2-3, 1R, 1 stolen base), Emma Wilson, (2-2, Triple, 2 Runs, SB), Nicolette Sanazzarro, (2-3, 2 RBI’s), Erin Jussaume 2-3, 2 RBI’s Susanna Majkut (2-2). Emma Wilson was the defensive player of the game.

Boys Lacrosse

Algonquin 17, GD 2

Jackson Graham and Nate Townsend scored for the Crusaders (1-2). ARHS (3-0). “It was tied after 1 period, with 2 goals by senior attack man Nathan Townsend but Algonquin’s superior fire power proved difficult to overcome,” shared Groton-Dunstabls boys lacrosse coach Rick Clark. 

Shepherd Hill 9, GD 7

GD boys raced to a 6-1 lead but ran out of steam in the second half and fell 9-7 to Shepherd Hill Regional. Midfield Deaglin Garside tallied 3 times and attackman Alex Cianci twice, with single goals by Declan Lowney and Jackson Grahmn. Declan Nash had an outstanding game in net, while defenseman Mike Lawton played well in a losing cause. GD’s record: (1-3). Next game is Saturday, April 20th, home opener versus Ipswich at 10:00 a.m.
