By Robert Mingolelli
The Keene Swamp Bats play in the New England Collegiate Baseball League and for the fifth time in the league’s 25-year history brought home to New Hampshire the Fay Vincent Sr. Cup.
Among the collegiate players on the Swamp Bats’ roster is Gro- ton’s Joseph Simeone who pitches at the University of Connecticut. Joe went 2-0 with a 2.82 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 35 regular-season innings. He pitched in a pair of postseason games with a 2.84 ERA and struck out seven in 6 innings on the mound.
Joe made five starts for UConn in the 2019 season and had a 2-1 record on the mound. The Huskies qualified for the 2019
NCAA Tournament in Oklahoma City where the team won three-straight elimination games reaching the Regional Final. They were defeated 3-1 by No. 9 Oklahoma State. The Huskies finished the year at 39-25, the 39 wins ties for the third-most in a single-season for UConn. This was UConn’s sixth NCAA Tournament and second-straight Regional Final appearance.
Joe was a standout pitcher at Groton-Dunstable and recorded the final two outs to clinch the 2016 Division 3 State Championship. He is majoring in political science and is the son of Ann and Robert Simeone.
