Girls Cross Country Champions!

The undefeated Groton-Dunstable girls cross country team is Mid-Wach B league champions for the fourth year in a row. 

The Crusaders captured the championship on Nov. 2 at Hollis Hill Farm with a score of 23 to dominate Marlboro (59), Westborough (70) and Nashoba Regional (75). 

Nashoba’s Alexandra Bettez (19:38) earned first place but the deep, talented Crusaders took the next four places. Sarah Maple*, second (20:04), Sydney Adams*, third (20:30), Kimmie Harding*, fourth (21:20) and Julianna Higgins*, fifth (21:22). Also finishing in the top 15 were Brenna Cox* (9th in 22:37), Mia Garibotto (14th in 23:32) and Audrey Gold. The team will compete on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Gardner Municipal Golf Course in Division 1 Districts. *Denotes league All-Stars

Boys Cross Country

Mid-Wach B Championships

Groton-Dunstable senior Eli Kritzer earned first place finishing in18:07 at Hollis Hill Farm. Thomas Orcutt,10th (18:53), Patrick Daly, 14th (19:20), and Kyle Luchford, 15th (19:22), Declan Lowney 17th (19:28 and Finn Shiely 21 (19:40).  In the team standings, Westborough won with a score of 35, Nashoba  (36), Groton-Dunstable (57), Marlboro (102) and Fitchburg (155).

Volleyball Central Division 2

GD 3, Milford 1

Groton-Dunstable beat visiting Milford 3-1 in the first round of Central D2 playoffs.  Set scores were 25-21, 25-27, 25-12, and 25-15.  Lily Blodgett had 12 kills, 3 aces and 5 blocks.  Hannah Wynn had 8 kills and Carolyn Mullins had 7 kills, Peter White (7 aces), Lauren Kenney (23 assists). 

GD 3, Westwood 0

The Groton-Dunstable girls volleyball team advanced to the Division 2 Central semifinals with a 3-0 victory over visiting Westwood. The Crusaders swept Westwood to extend their winning streak to 17 matches. No. 2 GD (18-2) advances to play third-seed Westborough on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Set scores were 25-15, 25-18, and 25-19.  The leaders in kills were Lily Blodgett (12), Carolyn Mullins (9 kills, 3 blocks), and Hannah Wynn (8 kills), Peter White (14 digs),  Lauren Kenney ( 30 assists), Alexis Millet (4 aces).

Boys Soccer 

Central Division 1 First Round

GD 1, Algonquin 0

Sophomore forward David Alverez scored in the 68th minute when he broke in alone from a switch of field pass from Simon Chandler and finished low past the Tomahawks’ keeper.

The teams were scoreless at the half. GD played its strong possession game, continuing to push throughout the second stanza until Alverez tallied the game winner. 

“Outstanding overall team performance. Best of the season! The Crusaders received great play from Simon Chandler, Max Phanord, Ian Maguire, Chase Herberich and Will Zinkann,” shared Coach Wisbey. 

GD’s keeper Alex Newman made 4 saves. GD game MVP - senior Max Phanord.  

 

Central Div. 1 Quarter-Finals

The Crusaders advanced to the Central Div. 1 Quarter-Finals played on Nov. 5 but fell to No. 2 Marlborough, 8-2. Pedro Pinho notched a hat trick, and Joey Van Buskirk scored twice to propel the second-seeded host Panthers past the No. 10 Crusaders. Marlborough (14-2-3) hosts No. 6 Tantasqua on Thursday in a semifinal. Will Zinkann and Simon Chandler scored for Groton-Dunstable in the first half. 

GD finished its season with an 8-7-5 record.
