We Truly Appreciate The Collaboration With Lawrence Academy

November is a time of year to especially reflect upon and acknowledge all that we have to be grateful for in our lives. In the true spirit of this, Groton Community School would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped us to make a new home at 14 Main Street for the 2019-20 school year, while our permanent site at 110 Boston Road is being renovated and expanded.

Amendment Reverses Vehicle Confiscation Language In Vaping Ban Law

Gov. Charlie Baker signed into law a bill that makes Massachusetts the first state to ban the sale of flavored vaping and tobacco products— including mint and menthol cigarettes. The measure also imposes a 75 percent excise tax on e-cigarettes. One of the provisions of the new bill would have allowed police to confiscate a car transporint untaxed vaping devices.

Messiah Sing: "Every Valley Shall Be Exalted . . . "

Soprano Melinda Stewart sings solo at The Messiah Sing. In addition to being a soloist, Stewart is the president of the Chorale.

First Parish Church’s Music Director Shawn McCann, pianist, accompanied the sing-along.

 

On Sunday December 1 the Annual "Messiah" Sing took place at First Parish Church in Groton. The lively, exuberant and emotional sing-a-long, conducted by Anne Watson Born with Shawn McCann on piano, lifted the spirits of everyone. Messiah Sing is organized by the Nashoba Valley Chorale and is open to anyone to join in. A $10 contribution by singers and listeners benefitted Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts.

Groton Charter Approved

State Representative Sheila Harrington provided a legislative update to the Select Board, starting with the announcement that Governor Charlie Baker signed the much-awaited approval to the updated Groton Town Charter earlier in the week. She brought a signed copy for the Board.

A heavy, two-day snow storm on December 1 can feel like adding an extra bit of ‘insult’ to an already-long New England winter.
     Such an early winter "snow bomb" might even tempt some residents to consider the benefits of moving to warmer climes for the free and easy living and year-round out door jogging and exercise.
