DRUG Take-Back Day

The Nashua River Watershed Association reminds you that this Saturday, Sept. 27, is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., your unused prescription and over the counter medications (including pet meds) can be dropped off at designated drop sites. Service is anonymous, no questions asked.

This is an opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinet, help your elderly parents clean theirs out, and so on. Properly disposing of medications prevents them from contaminating our surface and groundwater, which can happen if meds are flushed or dumped in landfills. Many communities, including Groton, now have permanent drop boxes. In Groton, the drop box is located at the police department. If not in Groton, contact your local police department for the hours and drop site nearest you.

NRWA is partnering with Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Worcester Division of Public Health, Fallon Community Health Plan, the Montachusett Public Health Network and others on this initiative with funding by a grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust (MET).

For more information on the project, please contact Martha Morgan, NRWA Water Programs Director, at (978) 448-0299, or email MarthaM@NashuaRiverWatershed.org.
