John Patrick Walsh

John Patrick Walsh, 81, of Groton, Massachusetts passed away on January 19th, 2022 from complications due to Pulmonary Fibrosis.
John was born on March 16, 1940 to John F. and Mary (Begley) Walsh at the old Groton Hospital. He often said he was born in the bread aisle of the for- mer P&C/Donelans. John graduated from Groton High School in the Class of 1958. He became a cameraman at Murray Printing for 25 years. He then worked 18 years for the Groton Water Department, 15 of which as Superintendent. John spent the majority of his life as a proud public servant to the town of Groton. John became an auxiliary with the Groton Fire Department in 1956 at the age of 16. He became a volunteer fireman in 1961 and in 1968 a reserve officer in the Groton Police Department. In 1973 he entered the emergency medical field and became an EMT for the town of Groton. In 1978 he became Assistant Ambulance Director, later promoted to Director. He also acted as Groton Civil Defense Director. He also became and retired as the Deputy Chief of EMS in 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann (Fielding) Walsh, daughter Elizabeth (Walsh) Dwyer and Husband Michael of Shrewsbury, MA and son Matthew Walsh and wife Tryna of Pepperell, MA. John was proud of his 3 grandchildren: Kristine Fox and her husband Chad, Bridget, and Liam Dwyer and his 2 great grandchildren: Harper and Claire Fox. His family would like to thank all of the staff in the ICU at Emerson Hospital for their extraordinary work and care.
