LETTER: We'll Keep the [Blue] Light on for You. . . by Peter Moller

Dear Editor,

Next spring the Fire Department will move their operations from the Public Safety Building to the newly completed Fire Station further down Farmer's Row. With this move, the Groton Police Department will expand, taking over the remaining space in the Public Safety Building for their operations. With this change, the building will no longer be a general municipal building, but will become the Groton Police Station.

With this change, there will be new signage identifying the building as the Groton Police Department. When this happens, I suggest that there be a blue light installed to help identify the station at night to passersby.

In my opinion a blue light is very benign. There would be no glare and a blue light can be very peaceful, very re-assuring at night. A person would not have to read or see a sign to know it's a police station. Many other towns have a blue light to identify their police stations and, in my opinion, it would be cool if we had one too.

I have spoken to the Police Chief and he has no problem with a blue light and would be happy to meet with the Historic Districts Commission to discuss the possibility.

Sincerely,

Peter Moller
