This letter contains hateful and inaccurate statements, and I can not believe the Groton Herald published it. [This letter, published in Last Week's Herald, was written by Brooks Lyman - see below]
Christianity has a long, bloodied history. Armies have been killing in the name of Christ for 2,000 years. This violence peaked with the Crusades in the Middle Ages, when tens of thousands of Muslims and others were slaughtered. Historians sometimes describe this as Christianity's "adolescence". The religion was experiencing growing pains in a place and time in history that lacked structure and laws, and so religious zealotry was allowed to go unchecked.
Islam is in a similar place in it's religion. It is the predominant religion in a part of the world that is still developing, and lacks a stable, modern government. However, to paint Islam as a violent religion is ignorant and bigoted, and a reflection of your own simple-minded intolerance.
And for a newspaper to publish your comments is even worse.
