Construction of $4 Million GELD Office & Garage Facility Rebooted
GELD manager Kevin Kelly announced that Groton Electric Light Department is contracting with New England Builders Inc. for construction of GELD's new office and garage facilities, saying he is thrilled with the substantial lowering of the project cost and adding he is optimistic construction of the new facilities will begin in spring 2014.
At a meeting of the Groton Electric Cooperative (GEC) Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Groton Electric Board voted to enter contract negotiations with New England Builders and Contractors Inc. as the General Contractor for the construction of the Groton Electric Light Department's [GELD] new office and garage facilities.
New England Builders and Contractors Inc. bid price of $4.015 million was $302,000 below the lowest price from the previous RFP issued for the building and garage facilities in July 2013. All bids received in July 2013 came in over budget, so the GELD manager and project architect were given the goal of reducing costs without giving up any of GELD's requirements. The bid of $4.015 million achieved the goal of reducing costs by $302,000.
