Groton Man, On Way to Work, Dies In Early Morning Accident
A tragic, early morning, single-car accident on Island Road on Knops Pond took the life of Vincent McCollough, age 20, originally from Port Wentworth, GA (north of Savannah), who recently moved to Groton. McCollough was reportedly preparing to go to work at a local supermarket when his vehicle got stuck. He had awakened a roommate for help and the two were attempting to move the car when the accident occurred.
On Thursday, Dec. 27, police officers were dispatched to Island Road about 3:15 a.m. for a single-car accident, according to Groton Police Department. Officers found McCullough pinned under a black Kia sedan. Crews from Groton and Westford fire departments extricated McCullough, who was then transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer. He expired at the hospital from his injuries.
Groton Police Department and state police are investigating the incident.
