Gravestone of Deane Winthrop, son of John Winthrop, a man who never set foot in Groton but, nevertheless, was the first chairman of the Board of Selectmen of the town.

This is the home of the first Chairman of the Groton Select Board, the man who likely named the town, a man who wanted to claim the real estate riches of Groton but never bothered to show up here. Deane Winthrop was his name. He was one of the sons of the famed John Winthrop. This historic home is located in the town of Winthrop, Massachusetts.
