Some traditions are too good to skip because of bad weather. The Groton Lakes Association’s annual decorated boat parade and competition was held on July 8 in the quest for sunny weather. Prizes were given to the vessel captains whose decorations best expressed one of three themes:  Patriotism (Board Room), Uniqueness (Lost Lake Horse) and best Non-motorized Achievement (Scott Neal/Ben Franklin). Congratulations to the many creative boaters who transformed Lost Lake and Knops Pond into a sea of red, white and blue. July 6, 2023 at 2 p.m. Groton Police and Fire personnel responded to a report of a multi vehicle accident on Long Hill Road in which one vehicle rolled over and the driver was entrapped.  A red Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound when it was struck from the right by an SUV that was exiting Riverbend Drive. The impact caused the Tacoma to cross into oncoming traffic, striking one car and causing it to strike a third. The driver of the red Tacoma truck was transported to hospital by the Groton Fire Department for unspecified injuries. The accident remains under investigation. See more photos page 5.
