Groton Student Wins Prestigious Art Competition

Hannah Robillard, of Groton, received an Honorable Mention award at the 2016 Massachusetts Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, coordinated by the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Hannah won the award for her printmaking entitled "Entomology Design". Over 9,500 pieces were submitted by students, grades 7 - 12, from public and private schools throughout Massachusetts in this year's competition. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7-12.

Students submit works in 28 categories of art and writing to regional affiliates. Landmark artists received, 9 Gold Key Awards, 11 Silver Key awards, and 20 Honorable Mentions for a total of 40 regional awards. Gold Key-winning works are then judged nationally by an impressive panel of creative-industry. At the national competition this year, more than 1,900 of the most talented students from 47 U.S. states, Washington D.C. and American schools abroad received national recognition and have access to exhibition and publication opportunities, as well as scholarships.

The panel of distinguished jurors this year consisted of artist Michael Bierut, Phillip Pearlstein, Edward Sorel, Red Grooms, and Gary Panter.
