Irish Voices Heard

On March 18, the Groton Woman’s Club was treated to a program entitled “Irish Voices, A Dramatic Presentation of Irish Writers”.  Stephen Collins, an actor and teacher, delighted those present with his knowledge and quotes from Irish authors of poetry and prose. The literary “voices” he presented included James Joyce, William Butler Yeats, Brian O’Nolan. James Simmons, and Seamus Heaney. At the end of the program, Collins did include two songs: one sad and one happy. He sang lyrics of the poem “The Dead”, by James Joyce, and “The Lake of Beer”, a poem by St. Bridgett. In spite of a bad cold, his voice was clear and resonant. Pictured are Nancy Olson, speaker Stephen Collins, and Marie Melican. Photo by Ellen Hargraves.
