Hikers Beware: Hunting Seasons Still in Full Swing

Hikers, walkers, and other recreational users of Massachusetts fields and woods should be aware of fall hunting seasons, now in full swing.

Upland game birds are currently in season, from Oct. 15 to Nov. 26; these include pheasant, quail, and ruffed grouse.

Deer are in season during these same weeks for archers only.

Wild turkey season runs from Oct. 31 to Nov. 5.

Hunting deer with shotguns is allowed from Nov. 28 to Dec. 10, and hunting deer with primitive firearms is Dec. 12 to Dec. 31.

The first black bear season was from Sept. 6 to 24; a second bear season runs from Nov. 7 to Nov. 26.

The Town Clerk's office does not sell licenses and has no information about hunting and fishing. For all information on licenses, limits, and all other regulations see the website for the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game: www.mass.gov/dfwele/index.htm.
