Crusaders Come Up Short

Visiting Groton-Dunstable (2-3, 1-3) trailed Algonquin 10-7 at the half, matched the Tomahawks the rest of the way but could not close the gap, eventually losing 27-24 in Mid Wach B league action.

T-Hawks sophomore quarterback Ryan Barry completed a 38 yard TD pass to Colin Robinson (Eric Hart PAT) to boost Algonquin to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter but early in the second stanza, GD's Joe Orlando scored on a  six-yard run (Eric Yanchenko extra point). Algonquin's Eric Hart kicked a 32-yard field for the three point halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Ryan Barry and Colin Robinson connected again, this time on a 57-yard pass completion from (Eric Hart kick). Moments later GD's sophomore Nate Forbes ran it in from the four yard line cutting the T-Hawks advantage to 17-14.

Joe Orlando's 33-yard run (Eric Yanchenko kick) early in the fourth gave GD a 21-17 advantage with time becoming a factor.

Kyle Hill snared a 70-yard TD pass from Barry. Hart tacked on the extra point to giving his team a 24-21 lead but Yanchenko's 21-yard field goal tied the game at 24-24 with less than a minute remaining.

Tomahawks moved downfield smartly on a 30-yard pass from Barry to Robinson and a 25-yard run by Barry that was enough to set up the winning kick by Hart, a 27 yard field goal.

The Crusaders host Westborough Friday, 10/24.
