Field Hockey Defeats Shepherd Hill
Groton-Dunstable (1-1) bounced back from their opening game 6-0 loss to Concord-Carlisle with an impressive 3-1 win over visiting Shepherd Hill.
GD had seven penalty corners in the first half and controlled play, but it was the Rams who struck first, scoring at 14:29. The Crusaders wanted the game and finally broke through when Madison Ready, (assist: Sophia Irby) beat Rams keeper Julia March to draw the game even, 1-1.
Seven minutes into the second half, Madison Ready scored her second of the game, with the helper from Samantha Gavin. "Well, I was in good position and when Sam took the goalie out, I was there to finish," commented the pleased senior. At 16:22 GD's Sophie Irby scored the insurance score, with the helper from Abby Sullivan.
"We got strong games from Meg Colantuoni, Fiona Henry, Nicki Wilkinson and Madison Ready," said Groton-Dunstable field hockey coach Rachel Connerty. "The girls really wanted this game and played hard. They deserved the win."
