With Mother Nature finally complying after two cancellations, the Knights of Columbus District Free Throw Competition was held March 3 at Orchard Hills Athletic Club in Lancaster. The day featured great shooting by the Groton-Dunstable contingent, representing Sister Lydia Longley Madeleine, Council No. 13140 in Groton, one of five Councils that make up the local district.

Four of the six local entrants won their age group to punch their ticket to the Mass. Regional Competition. On the boy's side, winners included Colin teDuits in 10-year-old bracket, Dean Tornaritis in 13-year-old bracket, and Tyler LeClerc in 14-year-old bracket. On the girl's side, Gillian Lindquist was the winner in 13-year-old bracket. Finishing in second place on the day for the locals were Connor Keegan in 11-year-old boy's bracket and Evan Cook in 12-year-old boy's bracket.

Dean topped all shooters for the high score of the day, sinking 22 of 25 free throws. Right behind him was Tyler, making 21 of 25 shots. Gillian topped the girl's side on the day, dropping in 19 of the 25 shots she took.

District winners will now move on to Central Regional Free Throw Event March 30 at Nichols College.
