Quabbin 63, GD 47
Led by Marco Gabrielli 22 points, visiting Quabbin (6-2, 2-1) rolled past Groton-Dunstable (2-6, 0-3), 63-47 in Midland B boys basketball action. The game was tied 13-13 after the first quarter but Randy White (16 pts.) opened the second with a three pointer and the Panthers never looked back.
Trailing 28-20 going into the third, the Crusaders played solid defense, went on a nine to three run and trailed 31-29 when Tyler LeClerc dropped a shot from beyond the arc. GD held Quabbin to two field goals in the third quarter but the Panthers went nine for twelve from the line and led 41-31 starting the fourth.
Corey Romich and Gavin Keough scored 15 points each for the Crusaders with LeClerc (5 pts.), Danny Howes (5 pts.), Ronnie Peck (4 pts), and Ethan Cook (3 pts.) also figuring in on the scoring. Both teams had 17 field goals but Quabbin went 22 for 29 from the line in the second half while GD was five for 14 over the same period. Can't explain the discrepancy in fouls called.
BOYS HOCKEY
GD 4, Algonquin 2 First period goals from Harry Perreault (Assist: Robert Hoare, Bradley Garside) 1:19, Eric Niemoller (short-handed) 3:01 and Robert Hoare (Assist: Harry Perreault) 6:01, earned Groton-Dunstablea 4-2 win over visiting Algonquin, (5-2-1). Brian Ward scored for Algonquin in second and Tomahawks Nate Anderson made it interesting with a third period goal at13:41 to close Crusader advantage to 3-2. Ryan Dodge (empty net) scored an insurance goal at 14:00. Ben McEvoy made 25 saves for GD (2-4).
