GIRLS Basketball Wrap-Up

Girls varsity basketball coach Mark Hennelly recalls a tough early schedule. "We were 4-4 after eight games and one loss was by 15 points to Notre Dame (Worcester).

Despite the .500 start I still thought we had a chance to be a good team." The Crusaders went 10-2 the rest of the regular season with a loss to then undefeated

Nashoba Regional. The other stumble was against Oakmont. "We came out flat, were embarrassed and paid for it. In hindsight, maybe it was good," said Hennelly.

After the February vacation, the team recommitted and went back to working on basics; communicating, and playing tenacious defense.

Seniors Lindsay Werner and Melyssa Langell were determined not to let the season fall apart. "Their leadership was instrumental at practices, the 67-51 win over

North Middlesex, and against Notre Dame in Division 2 MIAA semi-finals," stated Hennelly.

The team was obviously disappointed in the loss to Medfield in the C-Mass finals but being underdogs in the post-season games, they realized they had over achieved. "Lots of positives with this team.  I think the girls worked up to their potential," concluded Hennelly.

In an early season interview, Coach Hennelly felt the team could match up favorably with the other teams in Mid-Wach B and maybe take the C-Mass championship.

His last comment that day was "Why not us?"  The Lady C's were one win away making him a prophet!
