Lady Cs Fall in C-Mass Semi-Finals

Devyn Jacobs and Sarah Boucher scored two goals each to lead No. 1 Northbridge to a 4-1 win over Groton-Dunstable (10-9-2) in Central Mass. soccer semi-final action. GD had defeated Oakmont and Auburn in first round and quarterfinals respectively but Rams (16-1-3) were not about to fall to the upstart, No. 12 seeded Crusaders.

Northbridge went on to win C-Mass. Div. 2 title but fell to Belchertown in the State semis.

Brittany Belanger gave GD a 1-0 lead heading a perfect cross from Dani Kenny past Rams senior netminder, Nikki Zuidema 15 minutes into the first half. But Northbridge answered, getting scores from Jacobs off a rebound, at 4:35 and less than two minutes later, a Boucher rocket to the upper right corner that Kailyn Rekos could only admire.

Crusaders trailed 2-1 much of second half, but with 12:28 left, Jacobs (assist: Jorgi Adee) scored the insurance goal picking up a loose ball in a flurry in front of Rekos and finishing. Boucher rounded out scoring in the 39th minute.

"That was an impressive season," enthused girls varsity coach Steve Naboicheck. "The team wanted to be respected in Midland B and at the school. I think the girls achieved that. Respect for girls soccer. It has been a privilege coaching this team," continued Naboicheck who has coached boys in the past at Fitchburg University but never girls. "I am ready for next season."

Several players received awards including C-Mass league all-stars Brittany Belanger, Dani Kenny and Kailyn Rekos. Dani Kenney and Kailyn Rekos were selected All-State and Kailyn Rekos, All New England. "She (Rekos) is the most talented keeper I have had the pleasure of coaching," stated Naboicheck.
