Defending D2State Champions Fight On!
Division 2 Central MA Seedings: 1. Millbury (16-1-1); 2. Blackstone Valley (15-2-1); 3. Lunenburg (12-2-2); 4. Grafton (13-3-2); 5. Groton Dunstable ( 12-2-4); 6. David Prouty (12-4-2); 7. Leicester (11-5-2); 8. Bay Path (10-6-2); 9. Clinton (9-7-1); 10. Tyngsboro (9-7-2); 11. Bartlett (8-7-2); 12. St. Bernard's (8-8-2); 13. Nipmuc (8-8-2).
In MIAA Division 2 Central boys soccer, defending State Champion Groton-Dunstable pummeled visiting St. Bernard's 9-0 in a first round match. The Crusaders (13-2-4) received 2 goals each from Ben Lutz, Nate Pomeroy and Matt Tornaritis while Nick Fordham, Mike Keating and Morgan Manthous tallied goals. Doug Rosa (2), Alex Murphy (3), Nate Pomeroy, Paolo Filho, Steinar Skagestead dished out the assists. In goal,John Nyilis, Jamie Bailey and Connor McGuire combined for the shutout. Groton-Dunstable had a 31-2 shots advantage.
In the quarterfinal game, No.5 seed Groton-Dunstable (14-2-4) took out No.4 seed Grafton, 2- 0. Matt Tornaritis and Doug Rosa scored while keeper Connor McGuire made three saves. GD's Mike Keating and Paolo Filho were stalwarts on defense and teammate Alex Murphy played an excellent game at center mid. Groton-Dunstable was scheduled to play No. 1 seed Millbury in the semi-final on Wednesday evening.Results unknown at press time.
