SPORTS: Panthers Claw Crusaders

Panthers (6-3) quarterback Dylan Kierman, not to be outdone by Peyton Manning's six touchdowns in a game earlier in the season, led Quabbin to an impressive 49-28 win over undermanned Groton Dunstable (5-4).

Kierman 65-yard TD pass to Sebastian Brooks put Quabbin on the board (Patrick O'Sullivan kick) with less than a minute played in the first quarter.

Junior wide receiver Evan Lexo quickly responded sweeping left end and sprinting down the far sideline, out distancing the Quabbin safety for a 53 yard TD (Eric Yanchenko kick) knotting the score at 7-7.

With 1:26 left in the quarter, GD took a 14-7 lead on senior Tristan Lynch's five-yard touchdown. (Eric Yanchenko kick)

Panthers tied the game at 14-14 in the second stanza on Kierman 7-yard TD pass to Brooks. (Patrick O'Sullivan kick). If the locals left for a hotdog at the snack shack, they missed Lexo's electrifying 90 yard TD return on the ensuing kick-off, giving GD a 21-14 advantage. (Eric Yanchenko kick)  

A three pencil night with all the scoring and maybe an upset for the banged up Crusaders who had five starters out with injuries. Unfortunately, Quabbin scored the next five touchdowns, led 49-21 after the third quarter and that was that.
