The Town of Townsend is hereby soliciting sealed bids for the Squannacook River Rail Trail Sidewalk Project on Main Street (Route 119)Bids will be open at the Office of the Board of Selectmen at the Townsend Town Hall on March 21, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. Bids received after such time will not be accepted. Sealed envelopes containing bids must be clearly marked in accordance with the Bidding Contract Requirements. Each Bid must be accompanied by a bid security consisting of a BID BOND, CASH, or, CERTIFIED CHECK issued by a responsible bank or trust company in the amount of 5% of the bid price. 

An electronic copy of the bid documents, specifications and bid forms in pdf format may be obtained free of charge on or after Wednesday, February 28, 2024 by e-mail request to jconsolvo@townsendma.gov MassDOT prequalification of contractors with the class of work as Highway – Sidewalk & Curbing for the project with an estimated value of $158,713.00 will be required.

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the Townsend Wetlands Bylaw, the Townsend Conservation Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at approximately 8:10pm. The hearing will be held virtually via Zoom meeting and in person at Town Hall, on a Notice of Intent (NOI) filed with the Conservation Commission by Townsend Historical Society. The property is located at 65 Main Street (Assessor’s Map 34, Parcels 50). 

The proposed project is for the installation of a septic system tight tank and building addition with associated site grading. Part of the construction will take place within 35 feet of a Bordering Vegetated Wetland. Also, the proposed tight tank is proposed less than 10 feet from the 100-year flood hazard zone.

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the Townsend Wetlands Bylaw, the Townsend Conservation Commission will hold a work session on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 during their 7:55pm meeting. The work session will be held virtually via Zoom meeting and in person at Town Hall, on a Request for Determination of Applicability filed with the Conservation Commission by Nashua River Watershed Association. The property is located at 0 Riverbank Terrace & 0 Turnpike Rd (Assessor’s Map 51, Parcel 39 & Assessor’s Map 18, Parcel 27). 

The proposed project is to plant ~120 native bare root tree or shrubs seedlings along the bank of the Squannacook River behind the Farmers Exchange. All work will take place in the riverfront area, land subject to flooding and in NHESP priority habitats of rare species.

Work is within 100 feet of a perennial stream and a wetland buffer zone.

The proposed project is for the construction of sidewalk to connect the Squannacook River Rail Trail and other existing sidewalk under MassTrails Grant from 80 Main St to the intersection of South St/Main St to tie into the existing sidewalk. The work will cross over a culvert crossing and through Riverfront Area and BLSF.

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the Townsend Wetlands Bylaw, the Townsend Conservation Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at approximately 8:25 pm. The hearing will be held virtually via Zoom meeting and in person at Town Hall, on a Notice of Intent (NOI) filed with the Conservation Commission by Jose Mercado. The property is located at 106 Haynes Road (Assessor’s Map 43, Parcel 7). 

The proposed project is to demolish a dilapidated single-family dwelling, cut and clear trees, crush and fill an existing septic tank, and then construct a new single-family dwelling, deck, bulkhead, and well, with grading and associated utilities. Part of the work will occur within 100 feet of a Bordering Vegetated Wetland.
